An exciting development has occurred for me while working at Webb for a month. I can hardly believe it’s been that long because it’s still so new to me, but I love it. One of my favorite parts of my days is mixes and supplements because I get to hang out by the pasture to pull horses and their buddies out to eat. During this time they get their MSM, Bute, Smartpak Digest etc. Some of our horses come out 2 times a day for mixes, like Wonka.

He’s a newer horse to the herd from what I understand, so he’s got a little weight to add to him but not too much in my opinion. He’s a bay, 15.2-3 ish hh, Arabian gelding. He has one white sock, a lovely banged tail, a “331” brand on his hip, he’s currently rocking a chest clip, star and snip and of course his split ear!! The incident happened at a previous barn and is 100% functional its just aesthetically different at this point. We suspect it was an ear tag, and it got caught unfortunately. He absolutely loves Montana, she likes him back but she doesn’t call for him when he’s away occasionally like he does. 

Anyways, as a barn manager I have the ability to TLC (Tender Love and Care) one of our horses. What that means is I can do anything I would with a normal lease horse except ride. This usually goes for our older horses who are out of work, but I’m in the pasture and work onsite so I chose to TLC one of our available leases!! While I’d love it if no one leased Wonka there’s always that possibility, until then he’s my free lease buddy minus riding. For more updates, photos and other stuff follow his tags on social media!!

I’m really excited to use this free lease opportunity to see what horse ownership is all about before I decide to jump in head first on it or leasing. There are also about a million things I’d like to try on the ground before I get deeper into riding as well. The most frustrating part of this job by far is having so many different things I need to learn, but not having all the time to try them. (Especially when they all hit you at once so you have to do them all right then and there.) I spend an hour a day Mon- Fri just with Wonka to bond and get to know him before I start throwing things (not physical things) at him for him to learn.
