There was two trips out to Catalina that year. Once for the family and once for an air show which was amazing by the way. Pictured above is a gated community in Avalon the main city of the island. The island rises out of the sky on a good day from Los Angeles, has imported Bison, an airport in the sky and so much more. I’d love to live on Catalina Island, but I think I’d feel so alone on an island with only a few thousand people around me.
The island has the basic necessities like Safeway, tourist stuff, corner stores up the wazoo, and more but their main mode of transportation is golf carts. It helps cut down on space waste, seems more eco friendly seeing as some are electric powered, and it lessens the risk of your vehicle being broken into.
The overall vibe of the island is laid back old school vacation vibes and it’s very family friendly. From ice cream shops to fancy seafood dinners over the harbor Catalina has it all. My family and I flew into their airport both times just because we’re an aviation family, but there’s also a ferry from Long Beach that takes about an hour. Book some tickets and enjoy, and if you look at the right time there might be a there day cruise that stops there.
