Oaklyn Girth || 2021

Now that we’ve covered my saddle saga, we’ve talked about my stirrup covers and my new tailbag, but we NEVER covered my girth situation. When my saddle arrived and I tried it on Capone, I used his owners CWD girth. It was a 52 and was in my opinion, too large for him. It was on the fourth hole on both sides of my saddle billets, and I could still tug on it pretty decently. Luckily for me, I didn’t have any issues with my saddle rolling, but that was a genuine concern.

For years now, I have been drooling over Oaklyn girths. The Modern Equestrian has one, I see them in giveaways and in Instagram posts, and I quickly became obsessed with them. I did some digging and realized they were one of the few brands of girths that was actively trying to be sustainable and environmentally friendly, and I appreciate that. Their website goes into great detail about it, but these beautiful cinches are made of water bottles!!

After realizing I was really getting lucky with this girth idea, I decided on the Terra Girth with Argentinian Pattern, Fleece Liner, it’s priced at $78.95 with flat rate shipping for $9.95, and it arrived on time in recycled packaging. The fleece liner is removable for washing, and they recommend a wool slicker brush to refluff it as needed, which just so happens to be Turbo’s brush so its perfect. I ordered a 50 in girth since the CWD 52 was too big, and this one fits just right. It sits on the first hole on both sides and still gives ample room for breathing, working and looking stunning.

I think Capone looks absolutely amazing in my saddle set, and I can’t wait for the next pieces to arrive to make our tack sets that much more fabulous.
