With the recent development of me finding a new job in the horse world in mind, I wanted to go ahead and introduce you guys to one of my closest work buddies. He’s over 30, we think around 32/33 years old, and has so much energy I have to ride him daily before kiddos can sit on him. We’re pictured above in our main arena in Golden Gate Park, working on our trot (so we’re too hot to trot). Sorry I had to, I saw the opportunity and just took it.
That aside, he’s a branded flaxen chestnut gelding with a severe flirty attachment to our grulla Shanty. There’s quite an age gap between them and she presents herself as a baby to him mostly by champing while he snorts and strikes like a stallion, but we just love them all the same. He’s low on teeth as an older gentleman, so he a bit of a hard keeper weight wise. He doesn’t really like carrots, apples, treats and such so scratches, hugs and kisses are right up his alley for rewards.
He’s incredibly sensitive. Full stop. The slightest touch of the leg, reins and even vocal cues control him. As mentioned on social media, we are so lucky to have him in the program. He’s a nice horse. I feel so fortunate to ride something as smart, willing and as well trained as Jack. I appreciate him so much.
He’s been the main model for my DnD tailbag, and will be the first horse I use my new future hoof pick on. I say future because mine is about to fail and I will need a new one. I can’t wait to see what our future looks like together at Chaparral, but I’ll keep you guys posted for sure.
