Sunset || 2022

Back in the day, PS of Sweden released a bunch of colors that are now deemed “unicorns”. This means their colors are unique, there are fewer of them made and in circulation, some have mistakes or other identifying markings.

Since I have started my saddle pad collection over again, I have been slowly accumulating unicorns and pads I consider special. I started with Cranberry, and then I needed Blueberry to complete the pair, and now I need yet another pad from the past. Both my bank account and boyfriend are probably screaming at me in anticipation.

I have always stayed far far away from orange clothing because I don’t find it especially flattering on me all the time. I made an exception for my “warning” orange colored goalkeeper jersey. It was so bright it used to light up my dark closet with its neon aura. Because of that, I have always saved a spot for an orange tack set. My orange collection started with a set of four orange polos I got from the discard pile at Webb Ranch. I thought I would one day turn them into Hermès branded polos with a patch or something, but I have yet to do that. So what better way to put them to use then to buy a PS of Sweden “Sunset” pad so they match.

I have always been a sunrise, sunset fan. I love grabbing photos of the colors as they change and evolve as the day shifts from one timeline to the next. I used a precious picture of Caz first thing in the morning waking up for his farrier appointment to show you how vivid colors can be, and how spot on PS of Sweden was when creating this pad.

They made sure to give this pad a powerful reminder on the spine and stitched “Be a warrior” right where your saddle sits for a pre-ride pep talk every time you tack up. They came in jump and dressage cuts, priced at their normal retail rate around $85. Unfortunately, this set does not have a matching ear bonnet that I have found, but it does have a browband (just like they did with Prosecco). It is a three row blingy browband and still has the amazing “click it” design for easy use. After using the James Bond browband on Gabby, I’ll never use a fixed browband again. Priced at $89 retail, they go for $125 in some cases these days on resell pages. Lucky for me I wouldn’t have to save up another $49 for a set of polos since I have a set ready to go.

I have secured my own Sunset pad as of 4/15/22 and have spent the last while finding the matching browband. It did cost me $160 shipping included, keep in mind for a unicorn this is so reasonable. Until it all arrives and I find a horse to use it on we can all enjoy the bright fiery colors of the end of the day with Caz. Rest easy old man. 🌅
