Back in 1922, exactly a century ago, nestled up against the mountains behind Stanford University in Portola Valley, the Webb family decided to best utilize the flat 250 acre open space as a farm. It remains open for that purpose today, and it offers riding lessons, boarding and more.
Back in the day George Webb was the mastermind behind the raspberries, blackberries and strawberries. I was fortunate enough to go through the U-pick and man were those berries good!!

Stanley Webb completed his service in the US Air Force and decided it was financially in their best interest to also grow corn, pumpkins, green beans, tomatoes, bell peppers, and squash on top of the berries they produced.
I’m addition to all that, they grew red oat hay on Stanford land. This paved the way for them to offer horse boarding services back in 1960. There are now over 300 horses on property today.

Mostly used these days as an eventing lesson barn, or vaulting zone, there are options for the everyday non show riders and their horses.
I loved the barn and everything it had to offer, but I needed a change work wise. I’m forever grateful for the connections and such this ranch provided me, literally Grey2Bay wouldn’t be where it is today, but it’s okay to move on and grow.
I hope you guys liked learning about the history of one of the barns I have a habit of mentioning across the blog. As always keep your eyes peeled for the next one!!
