Fire on the Hill || 2022

I woke up late one morning because Turbo was screaming at me incessantly earlier. I heard some commotion out my window. I immediately popped up thinking Gram was leaving and I missed her before she could head out. Upon further inspection, I saw loads of water running down the street and many fire department vehicles. I ran out to the window in the hallway with a perfect view of the hill. To my complete shock, it was on fire.

This was the first photo I took of it while parts were still actively burning. I ran and called out for Gram who was in fact home and oblivious like me. In this moment I realize Turbo wasn’t screaming for food hours earlier, but he was instead warning me of impending danger.

The fire ultimately reached 30-50 feet short of the backyard fence. The wind carried it up the ridge and promptly stopped because the firefighters were there in a moments notice.

Unfortunately for them, they were out all night at another fire in Gilroy and headed back home to the engine house when they received the call to save us.

Within an hour or so, they had the fire settled and they were doing post fire management. They pulled back the fire edge and hoed the dirt up the help the revival process. To this day it is still an eye sore, but I am happy they fire stopped where it did.
