Meet MooMan || 2025

If you guys are reading this post, I hope you guys have read the previous one all about Big Country. If you haven’t checked that out here.

Let’s get into it. MooMan also known as “Moo” was a 20 year-old Appaloosa gelding. He was about 15hh, owned by Circle C Stables and used by my former lesson program. I think we would classify him as a varnish Appaloosa, but unfortunately, I’m not too familiar with the colors of that breed like I am with paints. All I know is Declan and Moo were twins. I’d often have the students guess who was who.

Moo was Big Country’s best friend ever, but he wasn’t as reliable. If you’re in the horse world, he was very much an Appaloosa. As an instructor, unfortunately his personality made it hard to trust him in the working lesson environment.

Exactly one rider he used him regularly, and my working student rode him occasionally. There were times I had to get on to school him. He was a fun ride, but not something that I was interested in buying or starting a lesson program off in any way shape or form. He had a very “serviceably sound” way of getting around, but his seated trot was amazing. His small strides made it perfect to teach kids how to sit the trot.

Despite being a stinker, sassy and opinionated, he was a good boy at heart. I think a lot of Moo’s issues could’ve been solved with TLC, but I couldn’t dedicate time for that in lessons as the hired instructor through a separate lesson program. I think Big Country brought out the best in him, he was truly a different horse with BC in the arena with him.

Moo’s full name is MooMan, but he’ll forever be “Moo, because of his spots” to me. It how I’d introduce him every time I got a new student. I hope he’s living out his best days at the barn in the East Valley. Thanks Moo for the lessons along the way. They’ll be with me forever.
