Polaris October Update || 2025

Hey, Hi, Hello.

If you’re here, you’re in for another update on my project horse, Polaris. It’s Halloween 2025, and we have some major changes for my Starboy.

Spooky Starboy 💫

First things first, we moved barns late September. Since it’s Halloween, we’ve officially been boarded at our new place for a whole month, plus the extra days from our transition period. Our last barn, was phenomenal, and I mean that truly. The location was stunning, from the drive in to deep within the barn. Po was very lucky to live his first couple of months in their “quarantine” stall, until I was able to get to Spokane to move him into his actual stall. I’m forever grateful for the hands on effort that barn gave Po while I was still in Arizona caring for Cayenne & my life there. They provided him the best quality hay, and he truly acclimated to life there. I’m sure the move from Ohio to Washington was a shock for him, but Echo Valley definitely took care of him. We opted for a stall with a run for Po, in their red barn by the large outdoor arena. While this was a dreamy barn, I believe this barn is the reason for some issues I’m still working through with my Starboy.

The dreamy red barn & Po’s most hated hitching post

Unfortunately, Polaris was just a little bit too far for me to truly dedicate my time to, and his restart got put off in trade for more “let down” time. This inactivity led to some serious buddy sourness, which reared its head for everything. We couldn’t do farrier visits nicely. We couldn’t walk across the barn property to use the round pen without severe fear. We couldn’t tie at the hitching post outside his stall, or make it to the wash rack. We took small wins at that barn very seriously because it was all we kinda got for a while.

I went back and forth a whole bunch for weeks. Cried a lot, and sadly argued with B a lot regarding moving my horse to a closer barn. However, we ultimately decided to move Po for the month of October. With my first snowy winter coming, I was not prepared to make a 30 mile trek round trip to work my horse. I needed to be realistic about how cold, was too cold for me, and what my productivity would look like when its way under 30 degrees consistently. Luckily this new barn offers a heated indoor arena, and more space for my horse for those days when I “just can’t”, while also being 7 minutes away from my house.

Our new barn manager at our new stable let us borrow her trailer to transport my menace. It went horribly, more on that next time specifically. But we did make it!!

Polaris working in the new round pen

Since moving, I have seen my horse more times in the last month, than I have in total since I arrived in Washington in late April. Polaris has been worked in the round pen, worked in the indoor arena over some poles with very little fuss. I have taken him on evening walks and grazing hand walks, some of which I didn’t need his stud chain for. We haven’t had a farrier appointment since the move, but we have had a couple vet appointments in the last month. Once for the move to pull a coggins & do a five way vaccine bout. The second visit was for a fun reason, best guess in the comments wins. Leave your guess below!!

Now that Po has adjusted to living at the barn, and the weather is changing for the worst we are figuring out what daily horse life looks like. I look forward to being able to ride my own horse soon. We still have a ways to go in his restart, but his brain finally let down and he’s just a horse now.
