The morning of September 23rd B and I grabbed our respective coffees from our go to coffee stops, and made our way to our new barn in B’s truck. We had already installed the drop hitch for hauling in his large lifted truck, but we needed to line everything up and hitch up. Our new barn manger was nice enough to lend us her trailer to get Polaris from our first Washington barn to our second, and hopefully forever home. For reference her trailer is a two horse slant load, and Po has only ever traveled with a buddy next door in a box stall for racing. This should have been my first red flag, but what do I know at this point.

My whole last two years, and the two years before that, any and all horses I’ve hauled have been experts in comparison to what happened today.
I loaded Po at Echo Valley, easily. We walked right on, got into the blocker tie and I started to back out when Po decided to follow me. He pulled back, started calling for his buddy who was upset he had left the stall and suddenly started having an issue about being in the first slot alone. I couldn’t get the partition closed, he was starting to get fussy and thrashing. Soon it got to a point where we spun in the trailer, I felt like he tried to go up on me followed by some kicking on his end and I asked to be let out. Visibly shaken I won’t lie. Po tied for a moment, and I gathered myself. If it weren’t for my boyfriend, and my old barn manager we would not have made it to the new barn honestly. We tricked Po with the treats into the trailer, he shipped loose in the box with the partition latched open and his halter and lead on.

He screamed the whole ride, which was 15 miles. He also ran in circles, kicked and double barrel bucked in the box. I felt so embarrassed by his behavior and my abilities with him in that moment. We thought about letting him out freight train style into an arena, or finding someone with my balls than I had at that point to grab him. Luckily an eventing instructor came by and grabbed him, politely got him into his stall. I’m forever grateful for her stepping up for me then. I honestly just didn’t want to lose work hours over moving my menace.
After a little romp Poboy settled in and found out his buddies are older gentlemen. He’s severely chilled out since the move, and is a totally new horse honestly.
If you’re coming from our last post, you know all that we’ve been up to. If not, check out this post too to get the updates. The move was crucial, and I’m so happy we made it happen.
