Meet Top Spot || 2023

Back in 2018 one of my favorite things to do was to go to all the local Petco’s and Petsmart’s in serach of cool reptiles, and to grab whatever I needed for my current animals. If it was near a real reptile shop it was like a miracle. That being said one day after grooming horses and getting lessons out at my barn manager job at the time, I treated myself to a reptile outing. By 5:30 that evening I had a new friend.

Top Spot arriving at home 2018

I always wanted a spotted gecko, a Dalmatian as we call them in the gecko world, and I was fortunate enough to find one on this day. This particular gecko was housed with a handful of other small geckos and he was thin. I was honestly mad at how he was being treated, and I felt compelled to bring him home with me, the spots were just the selling factor.

I was lucky enough to come home to a tank ready just for him, and it was the start of a new relationship. I named this flame dalmatian male gecko Top Spot after my Grandma Jacobs last horse.

Top Spot cuddling in the blankets

Top Spot was a cuddler, a floppy tail sleeper, a blanket hog and a fun gecko to have. Unfortunately, as time went on I took on more than I could handle at the time and I ended up rehoming Top Spot in his giant “Skyscraper” tank to a couple in San Jose. The idea of moving into another apartment with stairs and all the geckos of Metropolis Reptiles was just too daunting when Top Spot’s tank was almost bigger and heavier than me. It was November 8th, 2019 when they finally picked him up, and I am still massively emotional thinking about it again.

A nearly shedding tubular boy

After I listed him a girl reached out to me about him, and then suddenly another guy reached out wanting to outbid her in a sense. It ended up being the girls boyfriend and he wanted to suprise her, so it all worked out. Top Spot ended up in a home that really wanted him, and thats all I wanted since he started in a male mixed tank at a big box store.

I wish him well, and I can’t wait for the next opportunity to own a reptile once life settles a bit more. Until then enjoy Top Spot!!
